While on our whirlwind tour of Covington, GA we decided to swing through Conyers to checkout the filming location of one of my newly favorite Vampire flicks, The Originals. You see The Vampire Diaries is so popular that it has produced a spinoff show, The Originals.
I watched the pilot episode last year and was impressed. When the first season started this year, I found it too difficult to watch two hours straight of tv on one night. But I managed after the first couple of weeks to get caught up and WOW, I am a HUGE fan of the show. Yes, I still like The Vampire Diaries, but the story line of The Originals, is well very original and got me hooked. I also appreciate that the characters are more realistic in appearance than those of TVD.
So, when we headed to Covington to tour, we decided to head north 20 minutes to Conyers Olde Town District to take in where The Originals is filmed. A couple of things, Conyers has a lot more conveniences, like big box stores and many name brand restaurants, but it lacks the charm of Covington. That being in a small Southern town feel. So while it was great to drive over to see this, it was nice to escape to a more beautiful scenery when we were done as well, and Conyers doesn’t feel as “safe” as Covington does. I know that is a weird statement, but I am all about how a town feels, and Covington, “feels” safe.
My recommendation: When roadtriping, if you are planning to stay overnight in the Atlanta suburb area, {you know we recommend heading to Covington}, try to make a stop in Conyers and drive through the Olde Town District if The Originals is a show you watch. If you have time, take Jessica’s of Mystic Fall Tours, The Originals tour for a great little walk through of the filming locations and to hear some behind the scenes stories and information. It really is great and VERY informative. She will even take pictures of you in front of each “special” spot.
