Lights, Motors, Action! is my son Carson’s favorite attraction at not only Hollywood Studios, but all of WDW. When asked what he wants to do at the parks on a given day, chances are he’ll respond with “car show”. We’re happy to oblige as it’s always a good show for us, too, as it’s a good place to sit in the shade for a few minutes and watch loud cars, jumping motorcycles, fire, and explosions. All the things a kid, and his father, could ask for!
I’ve always been amazed at how talented the stunt car drivers are in this show. It must take hours and hours of practice for driving the cars at just the right speed and just the right timing for the show. Part of me wonders if I could actually be a driver in this show, and I just know I’d probably forget to brake when I needed to and would end up crashing into another car. I’ve also wondered how often accidents happen at Lights, Motors, Action! Yesterday, my question was answered.
An accident was caught on camera and video of a crash at Lights, Motors, Action! I would have thought the accident would happen during the first part of the show where up to 6 cars are driving very close to each other, eventually leading to a crash. This accident, though, happened during the finale scene of the car show.
The finale scene has two cars driving around the set, then heading in the back of the buildings. The cars then drive out of the building at the second story, down a ramp, then jump over the water with a huge fire explosion being set off. Here’s what a successful finale scene looks like:
Here’s the photos from the accident (photo credits to instagram.com/tonycagg and twitter.com/tonycagg):
As you can see, the lead red car comes out of the second building way too fast and is actually airborne. The back end of the car clips the support bar of the ramp trailer. The red car then comes to a halt on the black hard surface. Luckily, the trailing black car is able to stop in time from hitting the red car and causing further damage.
As far as anyone knows, no one was hurt. As such, it appears the show will continue without any delays or cancellations.
