Playing Big in Andy’s Backyard at Toy Story Land

July 21, 2018 by Ivon Pedraza Leave a Comment

What an Amazing time we had at the New Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Thank you Disney for the invite. We truly had so much fun. Not even the rain dampened our spirits.

After taking some photo pass pic’s with the Toy Story Land Woody sign, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie we decided to walk around and take in all the colorful fun and nostalgia that Andys’ backyard offered. Building blocks, toys, popsicle stick benches and more made you totally feel like you were really one of Andy’s toys. From a photographers standpoint there are just so many photo opportunities. You can’t run out of things to photograph. Everything is so vibrant and fun. Disney really did an Fantastic job in keeping with the theme of the movie.

Our first ride was Alien Swirling Saucers. Designed as a play set that Andy won at the Pizza Planet restaurant, the adorable little Toy Story green Aliens swirl about in their flying saucers and will tow you around in their rocket-ship toys, while “The Claw” hangs overhead. Upon getting in the queue line I will say that it was lacking some shade. In this hot Florida sun, shade and cooling stations like fans would really be ideal. As you get closer to the ride building there are a couple of fans, but I think more need to be added and definitely some shade to accommodate the guest standing in the long stand by line. It could get pretty hot and uncomfortable depending on how long you are waiting to get on the ride and I can tell you that with young kids and especially if you have family members with special needs that can make things a little rough. Luckily we had fast passes so we didn’t have to wait that long and once on the ride I can tell you that it was just a ton of fun. We laughed so much. The saucer swirls you around and you don’t expect it to be that fast, but oh so fun!

Next stop, Slinky Dog Dash! Walking up to the entrance you are already taken away by the Amazing details. Being able to see the riders on the actual ride makes you almost feel like you are experiencing the ride along with them before you even get on. Then as you walk in the queue line and you see all the toys, the drawings, the game boards on the wall and then you see the actual coaster, it just makes your excitement level increase even more. The seats are really spacious and comfortable and the ride itself smooth and exciting. The launch sequence is Awesome! The whole family loved it and we definitely had to go on it again because once was simply not enough. Wheezy at the end was super cute also. Oh and if you have a quick and steady hand you might be able to take a pic of Star Wars – Galaxy’s Edge from a distance as the view from Slinky Dog is really cool.

We grabbed some lunch at the New Woody’s Lunchbox Quick Service and I can tell you the food was delicious. The portions are really good. We ordered the Totchos and they are super filling. 2 people can easily share this and it would be fine. We also ordered the Barbecue Brisket Melt with Macaroni Salad and Potato Barrels. Very good flavors and a good portion as well. The Mystic Portal Punch was yummy and refreshing, along with a Coke the total came out to about $31, so we say it’s fairly reasonable.

Toy Story Mania now has a new entrance that is part of Toy Story Land and also has a 3rd track which we think is helping with the wait time as it was only a 60 min wait for the stand by queue versus the longer 80 plus minutes that we were used to seeing before. And Yes, Mr Potato head is back still cracking jokes and helping to pass the time while waiting in queue.

Overall we had a great time despite the torrential downpour that hit in the early part of the afternoon. With the Florida weather being unpredictable sometimes, we recommend being prepared for anything, lol. Ponchos or umbrellas would be good in this instance as we got drenched because we had neither. We totally didn’t think it would rain till much later, boy were we wrong. But it’s ok, it helped to cool us off from the heat.

So…. are you looking forward to visiting Toy Story Land on your next visit? If not, we totally recommend it. We loved it and can’t wait to go back again soon.
