Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort

October 23, 2012 by Aunesty Reikofski 2 Comments

On our way back from Gabe’s Army BCT Graduation, we decided to make a quick stop at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.  My first impression with the property was a good one.  A pleasant resort that was peacefully set on the island.  Now I am accustomed to the Disney attitude from the cast members.  You know what I mean, very friendly, helpful, a smile and a sense of pride.  Sadly I was very disappointed in the first staff member we met at this property.  The front desk, working on 10/12/12 around lunch time was anything but “Disney”.  Concierge was a little, but still not what we are used to when we go to a Disney property.  It left a really BAD taste with us.  At first we were thinking about coming back for Valentine’s Day to do a really in depth review, and get more pictures, but after our front desk experience we quickly changed our minds.

We walked the property, and found some really great views, as well as fantastic Disney inspired decor.  The pier was stunning, the pools were in classic Disney resort style, and you could easily forget that you aren’t at a Walt Disney World Resort and go looking for a bus to take you to Magical Kingdom.  While I was taking pictures, Patrick, Becca and the babies stayed in the play area.  When I came back down to get them, I found that Mike, the pool man, had stopped and struck up a conversation with Patrick.  And I was very pleased to see that there was in face at least one cast member that embodied the Disney Attitude.  Mike talked with Patrick about some of the local PGA golf courses, tide information and how many who are traveling through the area for military purposes, Army or Marines, stop and stay a night or more here.  He said it is really neat when you find families where the tradition runs generations, staying at DHHIR while going to a Military graduation or family day.  As we were about to tell Mike, good bye and thank him, concierge swiped him away.  If you ever stay at DHHIR be sure to stop by the pool and say hi to Mike.  He’s a great guy!

Of note – while I was in the gift shop, I looked for any Hilton Head Collector Pins, but there weren’t any.  The cast member said they do have one, but they must be out.  I thought it would have made a neat prize.  Oh Well.

Thank you SOOOO much for this! I had forgotten this place existed and I only live about 3 hrs away. Maybe this can give me a little taste of Disney between our Disney vacations. However, it does make me a little sad to hear about the lack in “Disney Friendliness”. Thanks for posting so many pics!!
