One of the little spots we enjoy going to and “hanging” out at is the Ohana Bar at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. I am actually surprised we have never eaten dinner there before, but we do enjoy grabbing a drink while soaking up the Disney atmosphere.
Well this last Friday night, we decided that since I wanted to shoot Wishes from the Polynesian beach, we would also grab a drink up at Ohana’s afterwards. It had been awhile since we had done that. Usually I don’t look in the drink menu, I typically order one of my standards and enjoy that. But when I sat down this time, I happened to open the menu, in hopes of finding a good appetizer for all of us to share {Pat, Carson, Courtney and Myself}. Upon the book falling open I spotted a site that made my mouth water! A Godiva Flight!
I asked our waiter, Chris, how much this flight was, expecting him to say something like $15 – $17, he didn’t know, but thought it was around $10 – $12. Which if true, I didn’t think was bad. I didn’t order it though at that time, as Pat had Courtney in the bathroom changing her diaper, and I wanted to know if he wanted to try it with me.
So while waiting for Pat, I asked the waiter about the appetizers, and if I could get a side of fries for the babies to split. He wasn’t real sure, as it was his first day, so he went to go get some answers for me. When he returned, he let me know that they can’t serve anything other than what was on the bar menu there, and the only dessert (because I asked about that too) they could serve was bread pudding, and that was after 9pm.
Our Order:
Beef Satay with a chimichura {sp?} sauce $8.99 – I LOVED these! They are only three skewers, but the meat is so moist and tender and seasoned to perfection! It is also served with a lettuce salad on the plate that had a delicious sweet vinegar dressing. I could have had an entire plate of just that salad! {Sadly I didn’t get any pictures of this!}
Pulled Pork Nachos $8.99 – These nachos were very good, and VERY large. The chipotle mayo that is drizzled under the cheese gives it a wonderful kick! The mound of pulled pork is seasoned very well, and not dry, which I was expecting it to be. The chip part is the interesting component… the top layer are these delightful airy crisp seasoned won ton chips and then below them are very crisp kettle cooked potato chips. While the chips were good, I LOVED the won ton chips in the top layer and would have eaten a WHOLE plate of just those.
Aunesty – Chocolate Martini $9.75 – Crisp and not too chocolaty. It is garnished with a chocolate straw, that was fantastic to drink my martini through… well before I ate it that is….
Pat – A draft Bud Light $5.75 – which I’m sure if you ask him it was “cold and refreshing”.
Shared – Godiva Flight $9.50 – Yes, I had to try it, and it was delicious! There are three flavors you are served, Milk Chocolate, Caramel & White Chocolate. Each shot is topped with a strawberry and infuser. Carson saw them set these down in front of me and immediately started asking for his…. They do look like chocolate milk… so we asked Chris if he could bring Carson one with chocolate milk. I was fully expecting one glass with chocolate milk, but he returned with a chocolate milk completely dressed like it was a Godiva shot! Strawberry and infuser and all! {and he didn’t charge us for it!} – – but the bad news… while we were waiting for the chocolate milk, Carson bumped the little table and the Caramel one fell over and the glass shattered. Our server not only immediately cleaned it up, but he also brought us a replacement for free as well…
Our total bill was $45.78 and we tipped $10.00 (he DESERVED it!)
I totally recommend a date night, or just a nice sit down and have a drink stop at Ohana. Even if you aren’t planning on eating there, you can still enjoy a few of the tastes and the atmosphere.
It all looks and sounds delicious. I’m definitely going to try this next time I’m there.
Yay! Thanks for sharing this. We’ll be staying at the poly next month and this is going on my must do list.
