Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Car Ride at Magic Kingdom

February 21, 2014 by Patrick Reikofski Leave a Comment

The latest attraction being constructed at DisneyWorld’s Magic Kingdom is the thrill ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train car ride.  Located in the New Fantasyland, this new roller coaster is set in the scene of a jewel mine.  Riders will be taken both inside and outside of a mine in a side-to-side swaying mine car.  Disney officials have compared the intensity of this new ride between that of Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mountain RailRoad.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ride Update

We’ve had first-hand looks at the progression of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Car construction since it began.  It’s been neat to see the mountain where the mine is being built over the past 18 months.  Disney has been generous in building see-through fences in certain locations to allow guests to view behind the fence some of the construction taking place.  As far as we know, this hasn’t ever been done by Disney before.

In recent months, we’ve decided to take our GoPro and go over the wall to see some of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train car updates taking place.  This gives our viewers an interesting view of the progress they wouldn’t ordinarily see or couldn’t see through the fences.

As this article is written in February 2014, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Car ride is now in a testing phase.  We were able to record a video of some cars being tested on the tracks a few nights ago.  Here’s what we were able to see as part of the construction walls have already come down:

One thing that jumped out to me when watching the testing is how quiet the cars are when on the tracks.  I’m used to other tracks which seem to emphasize noise but to hear how relatively silent these cars are on the tracks is welcome.  As guests will be walking by this area of the New Fantasyland, I’m sure this was all part of the Disney Imagineers plan to keep the sound of the cars on the tracks pretty quiet.  I’m sure when the ride is fully opened the loudest part will be all the screams coming from the riders!

To show some progression, here are a couple of videos we shot in January.  It’s interesting to see how far along the construction has come in such a short time.

This video of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Car construction update really shows what goes on over the wall.  It’s pretty busy on the other side and there’s quite a bit of work that goes into building such a big project.

Here’s our first video we shot of the ride as a night video:

We’ll be hoping to get more videos of the updates as well as a POV video when the ride opens up.
