Walt Disney World Transportation Cards

April 28, 2013 by Aunesty Reikofski 32 Comments

IMG_7418I am not sure many people know about the Walt Disney World Transportation Cards, but we LOVE hunting them down.  You see there is a card collecting “game” if you will that involves the three modes of transportation on the Walt Disney World Property, Boat, Bus and Monorail.  These cards can be difficult to come by, and the bus ones are by far the hardest ones for us to collect.  We just don’t use the buses.

Basically, how this works.  When you get to one of the WDW modes of transportation, ask one of the Cast Members who are working that particular mode if they have any transportation cards.  Don’t be surprised if they say no.  We have found they run out quickly, and some CM’s don’t ever get any.  I should have more than what we do, but I have a tendency to give them away when I see families with kids on the monorail, who are watching what I am doing.  I really need to start actively looking for Monorail cards 1 – 14.  As I add to our collection I will be sure to update with pictures

More about the Walt Disney World Transportation cards:

Monorail Transportation Cards

There are 26 in the series of transportation cards, 12 of which are Monorail Cards – I don’t know about the cards we haven’t yet collected, but here are the ones we have (numbers 15,16,17,19, 20- 26) we are missing 2 from this series:

Walt Disney World Boat Transportation Cards

Again there are 26 in the WDW transportation series, we have 7 of the Boat Cards, I am not sure how many there are total of them, but I think there are probably 12…. – These cards are little harder to come by, every time we go on the Ferry Boats I ask and only three times have they had any.

IMG_7442 IMG_7443IMG_7444 IMG_7445IMG_7446 IMG_7447 IMG_7448 IMG_7449 IMG_7450 IMG_7451 IMG_7452 IMG_7453 IMG_7454 IMG_7455

Walt Disney World Bus Transportation Cards

I think there are only 2 of the actual Bus Transportation Cards, but I could be wrong.  Since we don’t stay onsite, being how we live here…, it is a little harder for us to come by these cards.  But for those of you staying onsite, every time you get on a bus, as the driver if they have any transportation cards.

This is an awesome FREE collectible…I have almost all of these cards. So far there have been three series of these Transportation Cards. The first series has 18 cards, second series has 25 cards and the third has 26. Just a tip..when you go to Hollywood Studios, there is a booth for the bus drivers located near the bus stops.. If you go up to the window and ask about them they usually have all three bus cards available..and usually in great condition. If you go to Magic Kingdom and near the boat launch/ bus stop area is another booth for the boat captains..same thing here if you ask them they usually will accommodate. If you like to collect cards there are also the Wild About Safety cards that feature Timon and Pumbaa. These cards have I think 21 cards plus a “wild card”. These cards can be easily found at any park by asking a cast member at guest services.

My family and I went in May 2014. I am a 35 year old dad and our only child is a 5 year old girl. Needless to say, she wasn’t exactly interested in them so it became my goal. My technique was for us to ride the ferry and the monorail both while at MK and stop off at the resorts for the monorail on the return to the Transportation Center. I was really fortunate that I hit a cast member just starting his shift and he gave me 6 different cards. I got all 3 shuttle bus cards at once. Moral to my story, ask every cast member because monorail folks may have ferry cards and ferry folk may have bus and etc cards.

I went to the park yesterday and got the three bus cards. I thought they would have the new paint scheme on them but it looks like I was wrong. It appears to be a new printing of the bus cards. The most difficult cards to find are some of the boat cards. These are only given out at Downtown Disney or at the of the places the Downtown Disney boats go to.

We’ve gotten out boat cards from the ferry’s. We’ve found those to be difficult to get as they always seem to be out of them, but persistence pays off!

I am not sure if you realize it but you actually have a combo of two sets. It appears as though there is a set of 25 created in 2010 and one of 26 done in 2012. My daughter and I are currently collecting the set of 26.

With respect to the Transportation Cards so far there are three series. Series one consists of 18 cards (3 buses , 3 boats , 12 monorails). There were two printings. The first had dark backgrounds and the second printing has lighter backgrounds. The second series has 25 cards. There are several variations. The Grand One (boat) was released with an incorrect telephone number. It was pulled (some got out) and rereleased with the correct number. Due to the monorail accident there was also a new color released. Number 25 first came out with every color monorail on it and then released with the new peach monorail. Series three has 26 cards. I heard two days ago there will be a new printing of the three bus cards. The buses have new paint schemes and the new cards will represent the new colors.

There is a third bus card – The RTS #3 with Pluto on the card. I also live nearby. Go to any bus information booth at any park and many times they have the cards.

I had no idea that these cards existed until last weekend. I was in line for the monorail at the Contemporary with a bag full of monorail memorabilia I just purchased at the Contemporary shops, playing with my iPhone with the monorail case, when one of the monorail cast members walks up to me looking at my bag and jokingly says, “So, what’d you buy me?”. After talking about how I love monorails and collect the die-cast monorails (I have 4 colors so far – black, gold, blue and red), he asked me if I collect the cards…. “Cards?” I said…. He said, “Wait here…” A minute later he came back with the ENTIRE SET of 12 monorail cards and handed them to me… he said, “I only do this once a month to people who obviously love monorails, and you’re my once a month.”….. Magic!!! I was so excited…. The only problem is, he gave me two #22’s and no #18’s…. believe me, I’m not complaining because I was honored to receive them, but does anyone want to trade a #22 for a #18? 🙂
